LONG
African Dundada, born Mark Otim, is a rapper, author, podcaster and entrepreneur whose work is built on one idea his grandfather gave him: keep smiling. Not as a denial of hardship, but as armor against it.

He was born in South Sudan, a son of the Acholi people of Pajok. War pushed his family out, and he spent his formative years in a refugee camp in Uganda. In 1999 he came to America. As a child he struggled to read out loud and was laughed at in class. Later came hard years: trap houses, betrayal, loss. He has written openly about all of it, and about how music kept him moving through it.

Portland, Maine is where he built his life, his music and his community presence. He runs the Voices of the World community event series, bringing the diaspora community together. Today he lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, and runs African Dundada Enterprises LLC.

Musically, African Dundada fuses hip-hop, reggae and dancehall with East African rhythm. His album Thunder Before Rain is available for pre-order at africandundada.com. The title carries the energy behind all of his work: you hear the thunder before the rain arrives.

He hosts The People's Champ, DUNDADA Speaks, a podcast for dreamers, builders and anyone who refuses to stay down. New episodes release every Tuesday on Amazon Music, Apple, Spotify and YouTube. Listeners can send questions for on-air "Champ Check" segments, shout out people who deserve it, or apply to be guests.

The boy who couldn't read out loud now has a library. His books include the Warrior Rises memoir series, the Warrior Life System guides, and Thunder Sayings, a collection of 80 proverbs. Five newer titles widen the lens: The Thunder Within, on self-care rooted in Ori, Ubuntu and Acholi Ker; Dundada Mindset: Become a Big Deal; When the Drums Remember Us, a Portland, Maine story; the Thunder Roots Cultural Archive, covering peoples of all 54 African nations across five volumes; and Africa: 54 Nations, with one book for each nation. Chapters can be read free on his website.

For music makers, he created the Thunder Roots African Fusion Drum & Sample Kit, spanning Afrobeats, Amapiano, Afro-house, Gqom, Highlife, Drill and more, and the Dundada Master Pro mastering plugin. His MBDD (Made by Dundada) line includes Afribrand candles and apparel.

"Dundada" means Big Deal, the Originator of Thoughts. ONE LOVE is how he signs off.
